Leonard Cohen Picture
Leonard Cohen, CC (born September 21, 1934 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada) is a poet, novelist, and singer-songwriter. His musical career has largely overshadowed his prior work as a poet and novelist, although he has continued to publish poetry sporadically after his breakthrough in the music industry. Musically, Cohen's early songs are based in folkmusic, in terms of both melody and instrumentation; from the 1970s, though, his work begins to show the influence of various types of popular and cabaretmusic. Since the 1980s he typically sings in a deep bass register, with synthesizers and female backing vocals. Cohen's songs are often emotionally heavy and lyrically complex, owing more to the metaphoric word play of poetry than to established conventions of songcraft.

I Can’t Forget Lyrics

Leonard Cohen

I stumbled out of bed
I got ready for the struggle
I smoked a cigarette
And I tightened up my gut
I said this cant be me
Must be my double
And I cant forget, I cant forget
I cant forget but I dont remember what
Im burning up the road
Im heading down to phoenix
I got this old address
Of someone that I knew
It was high and fine and free
Ah, you should have seen us
And I cant forget, I cant forget
I cant forget but I dont remember who
Ill be there today
With a big bouquet of cactus
I got this rig that runs on memories
And I promise, cross my heart,
Theyll never catch us
But if they do, just tell them it was me
Yeah I loved you all my life
And thats how I want to end it
The summers almost gone
The winters tuning up
Yeah, the summers gone
But a lot goes on forever
And I cant forget, I cant forget
I cant forget but I dont remember what
